Snow Conditions
With crap snow on the ground, we took advantage of the day to ride some roads and fill in some gaps on our EnterActive Map for the Tollgate area. This took us out to Timothy Springs and around Lookout Mt area. Everything was crusty with very little new snow. The only place we saw something good for snow was around Bone Springs but everything else seemed to be a rain, freeze, 1-inch-snow sequence from the last day or so. Hopefully this storm starting tonight does some wonders up there. The good news is that no bare ground is showing, so at least you are on snow. However, there were bare patches underneath the trees along the southern portion of our journey.

Upon return, we had fire up the jetboil to brew our own coffee since neither the Tollgate Store or the ski lodge are open to patronize. Then, Sather donned the skis for some hot laps Spout shortly before he was integrated by a barrage of Whitman College crazies using skis and boots to get up the slopes. Finally the breakable crust is gone and he was skiing just crust, which is a good improvement. Evidence of a lot of wind with this storm was present in several places. We also saw 3 road cuts that had avalanched in a we-loose manner.

Backcountry observations provided or vetted by trained avalanche professionals.
