Guidelines
Goal: Sprint point racing for improving local racers' high speed strength
and tactical decisions.

Procedure
- Leave Riverside Park on time.
- After the Mt. Glenn sprint, riders should form a single or double
paceline on Hunter road, making good progress toward Summerville.
- Late or delayed riders may drive and meet the group at the
rendezvous at the intersection of McKenzie and Hunter roads, 45 minutes
after the ride starts. There is a gravel area for parking there and the
rider should proceed south on Hunter Road to meet the group and prepare
for the Waggoner Hill sprint point.
- Complete each of the sprints in the Summerville circuit, regrouping
after each sprint point for moderate tempo riding and discussion of
tactics.
- After completing the circuit, a decision can be made about riding a
second circuit if daylight allows (10 miles, about 40 minute per loop)
- Ride paceline back to La Grande (40 minutes back to town)
- Total: 2 hours - 33 miles (1 circuit)
Rules
- A group leader or "caller" will be designated at the start. In
general, this person is the leader for the ride. The caller is the
primary person responsible for determining safety of the sprints, but
all other participants should share this responsibility.
- Signals: The caller will "open up" a sprint by loudly calling
"green" (i.e. clear to go) when the situation looks good. This
signal may be given any distance before the sprint point. At this point,
the sprint open to begin. If a potentially dangerous situation like an
oncoming car is evident, the signal "yellow" (i.e. proceed with
caution) should be announced. Any rider may call off the sprint at
any time with a "red" (i.e. no sprint) signal. After a red
signal, racers should safely move to single file on the right side of
the road. Riders should also relay signals they hear to make sure
everyone understands.
- This is sprint training, not a race.
- All cyclists must stay on the right side of the road. No center line
crossing.
- Upon jumping for a sprint, riders must maintain a straight line of
travel throughout the sprint. No veering or cutting across the road and
keep eyes up as much as possible. This is very important for safety.
- Avoid overlapping wheels.
